TweakUI

The default Windows settings are not optimized for a multi-user system. Microsoft's TweakUI, part of the Microsoft PowerToys suite, is a free utility that can be used to customize several features of the patron environment.

Log On

Patron log on can be performed automatically by selecting the 'Log on automatically at system startup' option.

Desktop

Most of the default windows icons have been removed from the patron desktop, e.g. the Recycle Bin and Network Neighborhood. Since there was no option to remove the My Computer icon we dragged it behind the taskbar and have just the top showing.

My Computer

Mapped drives, e.g. those used by FamilySearch, can be removed from the My Computer display by unchecking the corresponding checkbox. We have found it desirable to re-assign the My Documents folder on all patron workstations to a common share on the file server with the Special Folders - Change Location command.

Document history information can be cleared at system startup.
